Just tune into it!!

Margaret Thatcher once famously declared that “ there is no such thing as society”. Her intent was to highlight the importance of the individual who is the prime mover of capitalism. I would rather say that there is no such thing as society and no such thing as individual. The next logical question is the most stupid question ever- “What is there then???”.
We ask questions because we need answers and it is possible to give beautiful answers too and it is again possible to bring out more questions out of answers. All you create then is known as epistemology. I am not suggesting that the process of questioning and answers should therefore come to an end. Questions may come to an end and answers may come to an end under certain circumstances in which you are. But the process continues like a river. When there is no such thing as individual and no such thing society, there is “is-ness” left behind and the “is-ness” is not fixed on to anything. It can accept any form from any void.
The dynamic and oscillating nature of your being is the essence of living, not clutching to ideas, not clinging to ideologies. The words always fall short of explaining this phenomenon. You can only express it in symbols. All that are personified in front of your eyes are nothing but symbols including the words I am writing. Therefore, they can only point fingers to an experience. Never can they become it nor create it. Mankind’s failures can be attributed to the failure of identifying the symbols with true experience and clutching to them like indestructible objects.

Tracing back the origin of creation to the basic building blocks of individual atoms and then to its constituents has only led to unsolved mysteries of interacting agents of a dynamic process that could only symbolically and partially express with mutually consistent mathematical equations abstracted from consequences of experiments.
We have brought ourselves into this mess because we accepted the idea of objects and things as different from processes and events. It profoundly influences how we see ourselves. It is the root of our sense of separateness from others and the environment.

The Scattering matrix theory in physics has now brought us to a point where “particles” are seen as intermediate states in a network of interactions. They are “no more “objects” or “things”. They are events. There are still some physicists deeply involved in the dissection of the building blocks of nature. They are now exploring the mystery of “quarks” which are not getting split into smaller constituents any more. More complex and intriguing constituents as patterns are emerging from quarks.
There is another school of physics that is saying that all that is there is the space-time continuum. According to this theory, all the objects, particles, actors, stage, action are all manifestations of an underlying four-dimensional geometry! This branch of physics has come to understand that nothing in this nature can be reduced to fundamental entities. Everything in this nature is self-consistent mutually with its components being consistent both with one another and themselves. Newton’s world, constituted by basic entities with certain fundamental properties has thus been completely upset with the new understanding. The universe has become a dynamic web of inter-related events. No fundamentality can be attributed to any part of this universe. All parts follow from other parts and each part is whole by itself.

Doesn’t it sound like the poetry in the great Vedas inherited by us? Eastern mystics had this vision thousands of years before our time. But, Judaeo- Christian tradition brought in the concept or belief of an ultimate law maker called God and the western philosophy and culture got stuck with the fundamental laws which God had put into nature.
It is now time to deviate from the concepts of Judaeo- Christain tradition because even science has departed from the attempt on searching the fundamentals in split forms in a hierarchy.

The “parts- in –the- whole and the whole- in- the- parts” conundrum being unveiled in quantum physics is not unveiling anything new. It is just trying to merge with the mystic vision of Eastern sages. Whole and part can be together only in a fusion of continuous process in which particles and waves interact as patterns of energy. This is what was experienced as cosmic dance by the meditators of the East.
A new theory is still in the making today in quantum physics which has attracted my attention recently. I don’t know if we can still call it a theory…May be it is a paradigm. Scientists may call it holographic paradigm.
A hologram can reproduce a 3- dimensional image from its broken parts of the holographic plates as much as it can produce the same image from the full plate. (A hologram is produced when a laser beam is split into two separate beams. The first beam is reflected directly from the object to be photographed and the second beam is allowed to collide with the reflected light of the first from a mirror, and the resultant interference pattern is recorded on a photographic plate.) Unlike normal photographs, every piece or part of a holographic film contains all of the information in the whole. So each broken piece of the plate can be used to reconstruct the whole image.
If we consider that all the objects in the universe are holographic images of a higher reality, the great puzzle of individual objects and continuous processes can be understood without any complexities. The analogy of a two dimensional shadow on earth on a sunny day from your three dimensional physique is quite relevant here. The shadow is not real though relative to the three dimensional physique. If you are the shadow, and you cannot comprehend anything beyond the two dimensional existence of the shadow, the shadow is your reality. You live and die in shadow fully convinced that the shadow is the reality of existence for you. As soon as you comprehend the three dimensional reality from which the shadow has been projected in given circumstances, your reality changes dimensions. The shadow becomes an illusion and your physique becomes the reality.
Can we comprehend anything beyond the 3-dimensional reality of existence? Holographic paradigm as I call it, can enlighten you through your 3 dimensional illusion to a four-dimensional reality of space-time continuum. Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity has made this understanding of the universe possible for us. When you look at the objects in the universe from a 4-dimensional space-time continuum, these objects are nothing but holographic images which can be reproduced from a whole plate or broken plate. We are nothing but holograms!!! It is as good as saying that we are no better than shadows in the 2-dimesional plane. Everything is Maya!

We cannot enter into this 4-dimensional realm with your mind intact. It is never compatible with the imaginations of the mental faculties. At the most you can say that the fourth dimension is perpendicular to all the other three dimensions. Theoretical explanations can at the best be expressed in symbols of mathematics and nothing more can be done from the mental plane about the understanding of this 4-dimensional reality. Dropping the mind and ego which are the main creators of objectivity as the reality becomes the first and foremost pre-requisite to elevate yourself from the illusion of the 3-dimensional world to the 4-dimensional space-time continuum.

Meditation can transcend the fields of ego and mind and take you to the plane of this reality. Unless you reach this level, you will play with your shadows and other’s shadows as reality till death brings the blow to ignominy.

So, all the three dimensional objects including our own physique are nothing but holograms. Physicists and neuro-psychologists are now able to explain why human brain can store 2.8X1020 bits of information in our lifetime. This is a staggering amount and brain scientists have long struggled to come up with a mechanism that explains such a vast capability. But the riddle is solved if you look at the information storage capacity of a hologram. By changing the angle at which the two lasers strike a piece of holographic plate, it is possible to record images containing bits of this kind of vast size. Any image thus recorded can be retrieved by illuminating the film with a laser beam having the same angle! In fact our memory’s ability to recall and forget depend on illuminating the holographic plate (our memory) with the correct angle of the beam! You tend to forget when you can’t find the correct angle to strike the beam!
In a hologram, part is the whole and whole is the part. Take any living organism and look at the multi-dimensionality, coherence and the dynamism of each part. What happens to one cell or organ happens in some way to all other cells or organs. This is exactly analogous to the hologram that was just explained. The organism is coherent with the world and thereby the universe around it. Nothing like an individual exists separately when the whole is dancing with the part. What happens in the external milieu of the organism gets reflected in its internal milieu. The coherence is unimaginably complex if we try to comprehend again with our mental faculties that exist within our 3-dimensional hologram. We can tune into it when we enter into the higher plane through meditation. Meditation is the only door through which you can enter into this plane. Then words become futile to provide explain it. All that can be said in words is that you can tune into it.
We are not individuals and we are not a society so as to “co-exist” within the boundaries of this world with territorial and political and social identities…then what are we?
You will find out only when you tune into the reality above your three-dimensional hologram. We are addicted to our beliefs and we do not want someone to wrest you out of your powerful intoxication of dogmas and belief systems. You will never find the right frequency to tune into the music of the cosmic consciousness unless you unlearn and undo all these belief systems that “enrich” and contaminate your mind and ego. The whole mind and ego should fall off like autumn leaves before you find the breeze to tune into. This is the true experience of meditation. Nothing more needs to be said from then on.

Homecoming

Home….It  is quite symbolic.

What is it all about?

I was one among the last in the circle of my family and friends to have physically implemented the concept of home in the true convention of a building that we call home.

Having built something of concrete and bricks does not necessarily mean that  home-coming has come to its fulfillment. As for me, home-coming still remains a search and in the long journey of life, home is never a destination. This is a journey where every step that you put forward aligns with the inward journey into the soul. The merging point of synchronization is the home. This is a state of rest which is continuously dynamic and moving. In that sense, home is never a point of stationary existence. Stillness is not inertia. That is not the characteristic of my home-coming.

There is only one place you can call home and you are always in it. Sadly, we miss it all the time. Home-coming simply means that I have discovered my home in which I was always residing and I still am. It is our own pure self.

When we start our lives in the world as a child, we have been always at home and we did not feel any necessity to leave the home right from the mother’s womb to the cradle. But you moved and wherever you were, it was home. By degrees, we have been conditioned to separate our home from our pure self to what you need and want according to the aspirations, desires, dreams and ambitions  all of that pointing outward and a new search begins in temporal and spatial framework. The idea of home has taken a paradigm shift in your understanding . The true home lost its meaning and a new home out there gained its significance and since we start looking for it elsewhere, the home-coming has assumed its ironic importance.

Albert Einstein, in the twentieth century physics, has proven quite vehemently that all that we see out there and here are purely relative to each other and there is nothing called “absolute space” and “absolute time”. He coined the word “space-time” together as an absolute entity. But in 21st century physics , even this frame of absolute  space-time is being  undermined!

So, where is this home in which you want to find the ultimate happiness and peace?

We will not understand home till we undo the reverse journey we undertook in search of the home. The reverse journey that we created by looking at an external map of destinations full of wants, desires and ambitions. Outside your pure self, you start identifying with people, social goals, idols and numerous big challenges. You start bending toward these external realities and you start identifying the home as part or integration of these realities. A false identity is created which is recognized by you as the real I or your ego.

What happens to the pure self which was glowing within you when you were an infant or a small child? In your original home, you did not reach out to your mother. She came to you. You did not reach out to your world, the world came to you. Now you have reversed everything through your conditioning. You want to go to the world and the only way you can do it is through strengthening your ego.

This is the starting point of misery in life and there is no escape until the undoing process begins in the opposite direction by gradually helping yourself align your world with the pure self. When I say, reversing the journey, it does not mean taking you back in time to start again. The re-birth is not about going back in time.

But there is a struggle. The struggle is there you have chosen to reach out into the world by using the crutches of ego when the whole world was there inside you. You abandoned the Garden of Eden and decided to embrace your ego and find your home. The struggle is about the alignment. The alignment of your ego with your pure self. In a perfect alignment, there is nothing to align. The ego disappears and the alignment itself becomes unnecessary because you feel at home in the whole process! But the struggle is unavoidable.

Even when you are getting addicted to your ego, something inside you are always trying to work toward this alignment intuitively. Some of your traits, or some incidents that you call coincidences or sudden relapse into bliss at some location or time point to the manifestations of this hidden process of alignment. These are signals or premonitions that you have not yet lost your true home!

In my young age even before my teens, if you ask me and still I don’t know how I got an inclination to read a lot mostly books on science , mythology and many classics. Today, that past has become my future in the whole process of this alignment. It was part of my home-coming.

I was of course searching something of essence in them. I was not reading them for just fun or pastime as it appears to many observers. I had a very deep involvement with that passion. In the search of that essential spirit in those books which were external, there was an internal search as well and those moments of alignment were the moments of happiness. Whenever both these searches aligned with each other, it was home-coming for me.

It is still very difficult to keep that alignment intact while you are physically and mentally growing. Because there are dogmas, belief systems and doctrines that get inculcated in you by peers, society, parents etc. It is a very dynamic and turbulent situation which is constantly disturbing your sensitivity. Besides you have the internal conflict situation produced by your changing hormones. Teenage brings a very challenging dimension to the home-coming.

When I listen to the story of the Prodigal Son as described by Jesus I know exactly what Jesus meant. The story is not about a moral lesson to be learnt by an extravagant son in relation to the love of his father.

This story is about the misalignment of the pure self with the external world and the struggle to find the true home. The father in the story is the true home as well as the pure self itself. The different shades or identities of our mind are the sons represented by Jesus symbolically. When the mind goes astray, the misalignment happens and when it synchronizes with the pure self, all the separation ends .

The beautiful part of the story is when the father tells the elder son that he is justified in celebrating the home-coming of the lost son in spite of the fact there was no celebration for the elder son who remained loyal to the father all the time. When you are home, there is always a celebration.  A special celebration is needed when you lost your alignment and then finds it back. The need for homecoming is a continuous struggle. There is plenty of elements that we search every day that can misalign our heart with the external happiness that we search for. Even when our logical mind is convinced that there is happiness to be earned in the world, our heart is sometimes not ready to accept that the logical mind is right. The answer is not to seek who is right and who is wrong. The answer is to find the process of realignment of the logical mind with the heart. Sensitive people face this dilemma every day in their lives. Unfortunately, many of us lose the sensitivity and give more credence to logical mind. This is how we bring the play of Karmas into our lives.
